Kathy Diaby, CPA, MBT, CVA

Shareholder & Chairman of the Board

Kathy Diaby is the President, Shareholder & Chairman of the Board of Thoresen Diaby Helle Condon & Dodge, Inc (TDHCD). Kathy’s specialty areas include general taxation, divorce, valuation, and estate and gift tax. She has extensive experience working with closely-held and/or family-owned businesses and their shareholders. She also contributes as an expert witness in court proceedings.

Kathy likes to think of the firm as the baby bear of public accounting firms. It has the technical expertise and resources of larger firms with the personalized service of a one-person shop. She’s motivated by the longevity of her client relationships, many of which go back over 20 years, and includes transitioning a client to their third generation.

“I love meeting with clients and solving their accounting problems. I want them to feel I’m on their side, giving them the best solutions so they don’t have to worry about it. You worry about the top line, and I’ll worry about the bottom line.”

Kathy got an early start the age of 12 by doing the books for her family’s road contracting company. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from St. Cloud State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, and her Masters in Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota. She’s a recipient of the Elijah Watt Sells Award for High Distinction on the CPA exam from the AICPA Board of Examiners. She became partner, and then managing partner at TDHCD at a young age. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA), and the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA).

Active in her community and outreach efforts, she’s been Treasurer of the Edina Basketball Association and the leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop from kindergarten through twelfth grade. She’s passionate about Share A Care for Africa, her daughter’s charity, and making the lives of the children of Africa easier.

Making time for her husband of 23 years and their 3 girls is a top priority. She also enjoys being a spectator at their sporting events, traveling, time with her extended family and watching trashy reality show television.
